"We are in charge of designing the propulsion system for our competition RC aircraft. Besides just acquiring the parts, another key responsibility is developing data for our fellow subgroups to aid in the design process. In terms of specific features on the plane, propulsion deals with the motor and propeller, the batteries that power them, and the Electronic Speed Controller (ESC). For the first half of the school year, our subteam focuses on developing a primitive design concept for the competition plane. After winter break, our focus shifts entirely into refining our design choice through structured experimentation. This could be either in the form of active flight tests or standard thrust testing via a load cell".
