Propulsion (New)

Propulsion Lead

Mason Phillips

"We are in charge of designing the propulsion system for our competition RC aircraft. Besides just acquiring the parts, another one of our key responsibilities is developing data for our fellow subgroups to aid in the design process. In terms of specific features on the plane, propulsion deals with the motor and propeller, the batteries that power them, and the Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) that sits between them. For the first half of the school year, our subteam focuses on learning the basics and developing a primitive design concept for the competition plane. Then, after we come back from winter break, our focus shifts entirely into refining our design choice through structured experimentation, whether in the form of active flight tests or standard thrust testing via a load cell".
