The aerodynamics/stability & control subgroup focuses on the aircraft’s overall aerodynamic design, including wing and stabilizer sizing. After competition rules are released, a MATLAB optimization code simulates performance to identify the best configuration for scoring. The subgroup refines this design for efficiency and manufacturability, using programs like XFLR5 to ensure stability and proper control surface sizing. Once the prototype and competition aircraft are built, the team plans flight tests and analyzes data to ensure competitive success.
